What a 4 Port Wireless Router Does
We have three computers in our home. We have 2 desktops and a notebook. All have ethernet ports but the notebook doesn't stay in one place so I use the wireless connection method to connect to the internet.
I use Comcast high speed internet as my ISP and connect through a cable modem. The cable modem has one ethernet connection, so only one PC could be connected at a time. Now comes the 4 port wireless router. I have my Linksys 160N connected to the ethernet connection on the cable modem. I have my computer connected via direct connect Cat-5 ethernet cable. I ran a 75' Cat-5 cable through the wall and around the corner of the house, through the wall and into my wife's computer. I use the wireless connection for the notebook and can view it anywhere in the house. I haven't tried outside yet but the range is probably sufficient to allow that.
All three machines can be on the internet at the same time, running at the same speed. I cannot think of another way to accomplish this without using a 4 port wireless router. It works beautifully. I can see the files on the other computers from mine and can transer the files if I desire to do so. All in all, the networking of my home was a snap thanks to the Linksys 4 port wireless router.
